Greetings to the Saint Luke Faith Community.
The Covid-19 surge has hit middle Georgia very hard. All of our middle Georgia hospitals are at or beyond capacity. The surge impacts not only covid patients but also others not yet admitted who need medical attention for other health challenges.
All of this raises significant questions about our Sunday morning worship service. We've been very fortunate since we started the worship service last fall. However, it is clear that we need to follow the admonition of John Wesley: "First, do no harm." After reflection, the decision has been made to not have the worship in the sanctuary on January 3, 10, and the 17. At that point we will look at the statistics in middle Georgia to determine if we can pick up our Sunday morning worship. You will be kept informed as more information is available.
Please be aware that Saint Luke worship will continue to be available virtually Zoom worship each Sunday. You will receive that each weekend through an email, or you can visit Facebook or our church website (saintlukechurch.com). Worshiping together, even though we are scattered, binds us together. I encourage you to make virtual worship a priority in your schedule during these days.
In the midst of it all, God is with us. The vaccines are bringing hope for the future, but it will take months for the broad distribution to occur. We all long for the time we return to worship together. It will happen, but we must exercise patience and wisdom as we move forward. (excerpt of Dr. Tim Bagwell letter).

Over the past weeks, our church has been mourning the loss of our member Mr. Al Eiring, Jane's husband; Rev. Osvaldo Malave Rivera, Eunice's dad; and this week, Mr. Jones, Phil's father. Although COVID-19 changed the way we celebrate the life of our loved ones, but it didn't change the love and compassion of our community of faith.
Today, we miss Al, a man with a gentle soul, lovely, a great sense of humor, and a person of character. We will honor him with his legacy: loyalty. Al will be in our memories, and Jane, thank you for being part of Saint Luke United Methodist Church in Harrisburg-Augusta. We love you, and you are not alone.
Our condolences to the Eiring family, the Jones family, and the Camino-Malave family during this difficult time; the peace of the Lord be with you all.
